Diesel Generator Sets Industry Review
January 2026
With 2025 market data almost complete, the year looks like one of rapid growth.
2025 Q3
In 2025 Q3, the market for diesel generator sets experienced the fastest-growing quarter that we've seen in more than 30 years of studying the industry, increasing 40% on 2024 Q3. Â
Below we'll look at the data for the major power bands and regions. Â

2025 Q3 Growth by Power Bands
Below 1500 kVA
From 7.5 - 250 kVA, the market grew 10% compared with 2024 Q3, with above average growth in North America, Middle East and the Asia Pacific regions. Middle East was fastest growing at 25%, with strong growth in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
From 251 - 750 kVA, the market grew 27% compared with 2024 Q3, with particularly strong growth in Middle East, Latin America and SE Asia.
From 751 - 1500 kVA, the market grew 17% compared with 2024 Q3, with growth focused on Asia Pacific, Africa and North America.Â

Above 1,500 kVA
Above 1,500 kVA, where the market is dominated by the data center sector, $1.4 billion of growth has been added to the market in 2025 Q3 compared with the same quarter in 2024. And 55% of this growth has been in North America. Â
Overall, the market above 1,500 kVA has grown around 70% in 2025 Q3 compared with 2024 Q3, with growth in North America and Asia Pacific close to 90%.

Data centers are the dominant growth driver for large diesel generator sets. Â
Full Year 2025 Regional Growth
Looking at a full year estimate for 2025, North America remains by far the world's largest regional market for diesel generator sets.Â
In 2025, North America is likely to surpass $8 billion, with almost three quarters of the market by value accounted for by units at ratings above 2,000 kVA. These larger units together account for around 85% of all market growth in North America since 2021.Â
Â
In Europe, Ukraine continues to be a major market with a strong influence over the region. In 2025 around $100 million fewer diesel generator sets were imported into the country, most of these at ratings below 750 kVA, having a significant impact on overall European regional growth. At these ratings, 2025 net growth in Europe is likely to be around 4%, almost flat when price inflation is taken into account. But excluding Ukraine, growth rises to 15%. Â
At higher ratings, above 2,000 kVA, although the European market is not as turbocharged as North America, overall growth is 30 - 40%, with higher growth in the major markets where there are greater concentrations of data centers.Â
Â
In 2025, the Middle East is likely to see more than 30% growth, rising to around $2 billion. There is especially strong growth around the Gulf states. Above 2,000 kVA, growth is likely to be around 40%, driven by UAE and Saudi Arabia and to an extent by Türkiye and Israel. Much of this points towards an expanding data center sector.
Across the entire Asia Pacific region, growth in 2025 is likely to be around 35%. Below 750 kVA, we're seeing around 10% growth. But at higher ratings, Asia Pacific is one of the world's fastest growth regions: at ratings above 2,000 kVA, 2025 growth is likely to be more than 80%, with China, India, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Australia and Indonesia all major markets.  Â

Looking Ahead
In the short to medium term, there's likely to be no slowing down in demand for diesel generator sets.Â
Even with OEMs adding new capacity, order books of 12 - 24 months for larger generator sets are common. Â
We're also seeing evidence of stronger market growth at ratings between 750 and 2,000 kVA where lead times are shorter and product availability is higher. And the likelihood is that much of this growth is from non-data center applications, where customers who would previously have purchased generator sets at 2,000 - 4,000 kVA have been driven towards smaller and more available units.Â
